I ran across the following on a Social Networking Security site that I frequent. This is a nice listing of some basics around Facebook privacy settings that everyone should read and understand.

Insurgents Hack U.S. Drones
Posted by Kevin in Technology on December 17, 2009
Ok, these planes cost somewhere between $10 – 12 million dollars each….you’d think that the engineers would have sufficiently secured the communications systems they use to prevent this type of breach.
“Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations.
Senior defense and intelligence officials said Iranian-backed insurgents intercepted the video feeds by taking advantage of an unprotected communications link in some of the remotely flown planes’ systems. Shiite fighters in Iraq used software programs such as SkyGrabber — available for as little as $25.95 on the Internet — to regularly capture drone video feeds, according to a person familiar with reports on the matter.”

Printing Money

This is a pretty unsettling video that shows how our government is devaluing the dollar with it’s fiscal policy and actions. Some of my more liberal friends seem to focus on Glenn Beck being in the video, as opposed to the data. So here’s another source which provides basically the same message.

Holiday Shopping Tip
Tis the season….so thought I’d pass along the following shopping tip from a recent MSN Money article I read.
“If bogus charges were made on your credit card, you’re not liable for them while they’re being investigated. But banks can take up to two weeks before restoring debit card funds to your account. Plus victims could be liable for up to $500 in losses if they wait more than three days to report a problem or far more if they wait longer; credit cards cap losses at $50.
To be truly safe, “never use debit cards,” says Paul Stephens, a director at the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a consumer group.”

“The Cove” movie is released
Posted by Kevin in Scuba Diving on December 9, 2009
I posted a blog entry back in September when I first ran across the trailer for this film. Well, the movie was released on December 8th and I was able to rent a copy from Redbox this afternoon. I just finished watching the movie and was both saddened and moved to learn the details of the slaughter that is occurring in Taiji, Japan. It appears that several positive events have occurred as a result of this film, but more is necessary in order to stop future killings and/or the reestablishment of existing bans/limits on whaling.
I highly recommend renting the video and visiting the following site to take action to help stop this senseless event. Read the rest of this entry »
